Battlefield 3 – Unlock Weapons and Gear for Cash

The worryingly large 1.5GB Battlefield 3 PC patch went live today. Yet despite its size I managed to download and install it in a matter of minutes. Now this patch addresses a ton of issues in the game and should finally bring balance to the force, so to speak. However, I subsequently noticed that among ther various bug [...]

Contains Moderate Peril Episode 53: Time is a Predator

It’s back to just me doing the podcast this week, but it certainly doesn’t stint on content. We here at Contains Moderate Peril don’t know the meaning of cutting corners. We also don’t know when to shut up. In this latest episode I ponder the following topics. My love affair with MMOs is officially over: After nearly [...]

F1 2012 Coming Soon

With the 2012 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP now underway. Codemasters has announced that F1 2012 will launch worldwide in September for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. F1 2012 is the next game in the award-winning, multi-million selling series from Codemasters as part of an exclusive multi-year deal with Formula One World Championship Limited.

To mark the announcement and introduce one of F1 2012’s new headline features, Codemasters has released a video following F1 2012 Creative Director, Stephen Hood, as he meets the next generation of drivers at the Young Driver Test. Filmed at the Yas Marina Circuit, home of the FORMULA 1 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX, Stephen asks if their experience with Codemasters’ FORMULA ONE games has been of benefit as they prepare for a career in the world’s most exciting motorsport in real life (note: you can see the video below).

F1 2012 will introduce a new Young Driver Test mode as one of the headline additions to the series that will take players even closer to the experience of becoming a FORMULA ONE driver. Players will be introduced to the world of FORMULA ONE through a range of tutorials explaining how to handle racing’s most exciting and responsive cars, and challenged to earn a drive from a team for the 2012 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.

In the video, rising star Sam Bird, testing for Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, says, “I think Codemasters have done a super job of giving regular people a proper insight into what a FORMULA ONE car is like.”

Stefano Coletti, representing Scuderia Toro Rosso added, “When I came to Abu Dhabi I couldn’t go to the simulator so I switched on the videogame and started to play. It actually worked because when I got here I felt like I’d already driven [the circuit]. It was my first race in GP2, first ever time in GP2, and I won in my first race so it actually helped.”

In F1 2012 players will feel the unparalleled thrill of becoming a FORMULA ONE driver with a host of new features, wide-ranging technical and gameplay advancements and extensive competitive and co-operative multiplayer components. F1 2012 will feature all of the official teams, drivers and circuits from the 2012 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, including the debut of the 2012 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX at Austin, Texas and the return of Germany’s famous Hockenheim circuit to the calendar.

GAME Is Going Bust, So What?

A lot of you would have read this in the news, if not you’ve read it now :) . So do we really care that one of the world biggest high street video game retailers is going bust?

Some of us in other countries are saying GAME? who cares we have GameStop, or in the UK there’s always GameStation. Well if you don’t know they are all the same group, so of one goes they all go.

So why do we all like GAME? Well the advantages were you could get games then and there, and also receive points for buying games/consoles, you could also make a quick buck by selling your games/console and even though they ripped you off you could do it then and there.

Are we really going to care though? a good example of GAMEs exploits was when COD 4 came out, it remained at the £40 for ages, but 3 months after its release I got a hold of a used copy for £15, how? Well the seller lost the case and manual. So browsing the Internet for an hour or so can get you really cheap games, only problem is it takes a few days to arrive.

Nowadays you can pre-order, sell your used games and loads of other stuff all on the internet, but instead of going down to GAME we just pop to the post office, and places like amazon will only take around 10% which is a lot less than GAME.

It’s always sad to see retailers that you went to for many years go bust, but truth be told we don’t care after a few weeks because we all know we can get it in the post.

VERDICT: Whether GAME does close or gets sold on it won’t really affect any of us buyers, but watch out the next few weeks are critical as GAME is slashing their prices. Battlefield 3 on the PS3 used is around £18 so keep an eye out.
